Carpenter nails door shut with walk-off HR in 11th

ST. LOUIS -- Late lead changes, shaky control and spotty relief pitching have defined the first two games of this series between the Cardinals and Brewers at Busch Stadium. Matt Carpenter ensured that the Cardinals emerged from at least one with a win.

Carpenter's walk-off, two-run home run off J.J. Hoover gave St. Louis a 5-3 victory over the Brewers in 11 innings, after the club tied the game twice with rallies in both previous innings.

Carpenter's second home run of the season also salvaged a night in which the Cardinals went scoreless through the first five innings, stranded 13 baserunners and struck out six times from the seventh inning on.
