Brewers trade Carlos Gomez to Mets

The Milwaukee Brewers have traded centerfielder Carlos Gomez to the New York Mets, a club source confirmed Wednesday evening.

The Brewers will receive Zach Wheeler, a highly-regarded pitcher currently recovering from Tommy John surgery, and infielder Wilmer Flores, in exchange for Gomez.

Flores has played a lot of shortstop but also is considered a third baseman and provides a replacement for Aramis Ramirez, traded last week to Pittsburgh.

Wheeler, 25, was considered an up-and-coming starting pitcher for the Mets before undergoing the surgery in March. He is not expected to be back pitching in the majors before next June or July.
