YPSILANTI, Michigan - After day one of competition at the 2017 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Eastern Michigan men and the Akron ladies are in the lead. Through five events, the Eagles tallied 38 points and the Zips recorded 62.

The day started off with Kent State’s Danniel Thomas reclaiming the women’s shot put title, becoming the first three-time champion. The senior threw a MAC record 18.08m (59-03.75). On the men’s side, Buffalo swept the top two spots with Devon Patterson finishing first, hurling an 18.
