Michigan increases football assistant salary pool, Warde Manuel says

ANN ARBOR -- When Jim Harbaugh first agreed to be Michigan's head coach in late 2014, he had language about assistant coaching salaries put into his contract.

Initially, Michigan was required to set aside between $4 and $5 million for Harbaugh's coaching staff.

That number has gone up as Harbaugh approaches year three.

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel did not give an exact number Saturday during a conversation before the men's basketball game against Illinois, but he did confirm that the assistant salary pool is on the rise. And he also said he supported the decision to push both coordinator salaries to the seven-figure mark.
