Kaplan Family Endows Men's Basketball Head Coaching Position

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced today (Thursday, June 15) that its men's basketball head coach position has been endowed through a generous gift by David and Meredith Kaplan of Los Angeles, California, both alumni of the university. The position, currently held by John Beilein, will be named the David and Meredith Kaplan Men's Basketball Head Coach.

The naming and endowment of the position was approved by the U-M Board of Regents during its June meeting. The $7.5 million gift includes funding for the head basketball coach position, the David and Meredith Kaplan Men's Basketball Endowed Scholarship Fund, and Athletic Department facilities improvements.
