Brian Smith Named Michigan's Defensive Backs Coach

BRADENTON, Fla. -- University of Michigan J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh announced the hiring of Brian Smith to the position of defensive backs coach for the football program. Smith will work with the safeties and team with cornerbacks coach Michael Zordich to mentor the secondary.

Smith comes to Ann Arbor after spending the 2015 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he served as the team's assistant linebackers coach. Prior to joining the Eagles staff, Smith spent eight seasons with the New York Jets (2007-14).
