SOURCE: Michigan Hoping To Unveil Shotgun-Heavy Offense With Shea Patterson - James Yoder Reporting

After talking to several sources close to Michigan football players and Michigan support staff over the past several weeks, we can confirm with near certainty that Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan football coaching staff are planning to move to a shotgun-heavy offense in 2018. The offensive philosophy and game plan will be a major change from the I-form and run-heavy offense Michigan has run in prior season at Michigan. (Watch James Yoder's story from Saturday in video above).

With OC Tim Drevno out, and national championship OC's Jim McElwain and Ed Warinner joining the Michigan football staff this season, Michigan went back top the drawing board and spoke with several coaching staff's that operate a run and RPO-friendly shotgun offense in an effort to take advantage of Shea Patterson's arm talent and ability to make plays outside of the pocket.

3 days ago, Chat Sports' Michigan Football Report broke this story (19:02 mark of video) as 4-Harbaugh heads F-A-C-K (that's how Jim Harbaugh spells FACT), but can now confirm that through several days of Michigan Football fall camp, the offense has been full steam ahead in implementing a shotgun-heavy RPO-style offense to be ready for September 1 night game at Notre Dame,

Shea Patterson is the unquestioned starting QB - don't let anyone confuse you that there is any QB competition - there isn't. As we reported in early July - Patterson and Joe Milton (and NOT McCaffrey or Peters) were given a special shotgun and RPO playbook (21:10 mark of video linked) and were told to study and know it, and to be ready to implement. Both QB's came into fall camp last week ready and prepared to lead the Michigan Football offense into the 21st century.

Michigan will still take nearly half of snaps from under center, and also have a heavy of pistol-offense plays, which allow Patterson to utilize his skills the the best of his ability.

**Will Shea Patterson win the Heisman?** 17-1 odds against it - a $25 bet returns $425 in winnings! Makes the season more exciting - BetDSI is the only sportsbook for Michigan football fans to bet this fall. Use promo code NFL120 for 120% deposit bonus in free money! (deposit $50? get $60 free!)

The base set will shy away from FB and RB in backfield, and you may only see that combo 15-20% of snaps. The more common set will utilize 2 TE and 2 WR + 1 RB, or 3 WR, 1 TE, and a FB or RB.

Early reports are that Michigan's offensive live, which may start true freshman Jalen Mayfield, has stepped up and performed better in limited action this fall, due to simplification of duties and 'time' that a shotgun set allows.
