Instant Reaction: Blocked Field Goal Gives Rutgers 26-24 Win Over Michigan

Michigan went back to Devin Gardner at quarterback, and though he had a good first half, the Wolverines trailed at the midway point.

Rutgers opened up their lead by nine with an early fourth quarter touchdown by quarterback Gary Nova.

The Michigan offense responded with their first score of the second half, as Gardner ran in his second touchdown of the night, a 19 yard scramble to cut the lead to 26-24 with nine minutes to go in the contest.

The Wolverines had a chance to take the lead late in the game, lining up for a 56 yard field goal. Rutgers blocked the kick at the line, giving them the football and the victory.

Turning Point: Still trailing by two points late in the fourth quarter, Michigan lined up for a potential go-ahead field goal with just over three minutes to go.

Rutgers blocked the kick, and with Michigan down to just one timeout, the Scarlet Knights were able to run out the rest of the clock.
