Ryan Newsome grew up in Texas and was recruited by schools in and near his home state. The 5-foot-8 wide receiver chose to stay close to home for college at Texas. But after his freshman season in 2015, Newsome announced that he would be transferring.
The first school to make contact was one outside of his expected radius: Michigan State.
“MSU, apparently, they’ve wanted me since high school but never extended the offer since they thought I’d never leave Texas,” Newsome said. “I guess they were right. But this time, they were the first school to reach out to me.
