Rally Foiled as Wolverines Top Spartans in OT

DETROIT - Trailing 4-1 entering the third period, the Michigan State hockey team roared back with three straight goals to pull even with Michigan on Friday at Joe Louis Arena. But the Spartans’ bid for a come-from-behind win fell short as Tony Calderone scored 2:58 into overtime to give Michigan a 5-4 win in the third-place game of the Great Lakes Invitational.

After scoring twice in the first 4:32 of the third period to make the score 4-3, the Spartans made it a new game with 2:10 to go when JT Stenglein swept home a loose puck.
