Race for No. 2 Michigan State QB job ongoing; Rocky Lombardi also impressing

EAST LANSING -- Michigan State knows who it will send out at quarterback for its season opener against Bowling Green in two weeks: sophomore Brian Lewerke.

What it doesn't know yet is who will go in if Lewerke is injured or ineffective at some point during the season.

Spartans quarterback coach Brad Salem said on Thursday that the quarterback hierarchy behind Lewerke remains undecided through nearly three weeks of fall camp.

Redshirt freshman Messiah deWeaver and senior Damion Terry are the primary contenders for the job, Salem said.
