EAST LANSING - Asked to evaluate the true freshmen in a season-opening win over Bowling Green on Saturday, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio started with Corey.
He quickly corrected that to Cody Smith before ultimately spitting out the name he originally intended in Cody White.
Dantonio can be forgiven for briefly blanking on the name considering how many newcomers were on the field.
Michigan State played nine true freshmen against Bowling Green to match the total from all last season, which set a record in Dantonio's tenure.
"I would say that we definitely knew those guys that you saw on the field today, they were going to play.
