Michigan State defensive line coaching changes lead to 'more specialized teaching'

EAST LANSING - Despite finishing 3-9 last season, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio retained his entire staff.

However, there were some tweaks in the offseason, including on the defense line.

Ron Burton spent the last four seasons coaching the Spartans' entire defensive line but is now splitting it up with Mark Snyder. Burton has the tackles and Snyder, who coached linebackers the last two seasons, has the ends. The move was made, in part, to reduce the player-to-coach ratio.

"Ron Burton has done an outstanding job here and he continues to do so, but we needed to take that 20-to-1 ratio and make it 10-to-1," Dantonio said.
