Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis vows to fix culture, but actions will tell

EAST LANSING – Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis wrote the speech Monday night. Without the help of a PR person. Or a lawyer.

It was personal and brutally honest, full of apology and emotion.

“I wrote it from my heart,” Hollis said Tuesday. “In some ways, it was therapeutic for me.”

At one point, Hollis was concerned about some aspects of what he wanted to say. How it might be perceived. But he didn’t back down. He laid it out on the line.

And so this son of a minister wrote a speech about a horrific situation, about a young woman who allegedly was sexually assaulted by three members of the MSU football team.
