It’s been a tough stretch for the Spartans. For the second time in the last two days one of Michigan State’s final recruiting targets has chosen to play elsewhere. This time, it’s four star guard Mark Smith who chose to stay home and play for the Illini.

A former Mizzou baseball commit, Smith didn’t start concentrating on basketball full time until the fall of 2016. All that happened after that was Smith nearly averaging a triple double and winning Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Illinois.
