EAST LANSING -- Michigan State was already up by 27 points when Nick Ward took a feed in the center of the lane from Kenny Goins and went up for a shot with five minutes left.
Ward was fouled, and after it bounced off the rim, the ball fell to the side. The Spartans big man looked as disappointed as he had all game over a miss that had essentially no bearing on the result.
Ward had reason for his frustration: he was trying to get Kenny Goins another assist and move his team closer to an unlikely triple-double.
