Michigan State tight end Jamal Lyles emerging as red zone target for quarterback Connor Cook

EAST LANSING -- Rising stars don't pop up on coach Mark Dantonio's Michigan State football teams as much as they evolve after a season or two of seasoning, and such is the case with redshirt junior tight end Jamal Lyles.

Lyles has caught a touchdown pass in each of the first two scrimmages, an indication he has done enough to earn playing time from co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Jim Bollman while also catching the eye of quarterback Connor Cook.

"Jamal Lyles is a big target, and he can go up there and make plays,'' Cook said following Saturday's closed scrimmage at Spartan Stadium.
