Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez died in a boating accident, the team announced Sunday morning, per Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald.
"The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez," the team said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time."
Fernandez was 24.
The Marlins canceled Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves.
