Powerful young lineman Jalen Rivers seeks to make initial impact for Hurricanes at guard

Miami Hurricanes second-year offensive lineman Jalen Rivers is making significant strides in spring practice as he competes at left guard with Jakai Clark, a starter the past two seasons.

Rivers, a former four-star recruit out of Oakleaf High just outside of Jacksonville, reports he has gotten himself down to 325 pounds from previously being up around 340 and has gained strength. He is adjusting to playing guard after being a lifelong tackle.

“I haven’t played guard since park ball, but middle school and high school, I played left tackle,” Rivers said Wednesday. “I feel like I adjusted very well.
