James’ only appearance as a freshman came in the 2016 opener against Florida A&M. The nephew of Hurricanes legend Edgerrin James was one of seven players that were suspended for Miami’s Russell Athletic Bowl victory over West Virginia.
Miami Head Coach Mark Richt was quoted in a press release from the University via the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel discussing the situation.
“I talked to Jeff and we both felt it was in his best interests to get a fresh start somewhere else,” Miami coach Mark Richt said in a statement issued by Miami. “We wish him all the best in his future plans.
