Familiar issues haunt 'Canes in loss to Cincinnati

– Even through their first three games – all wins – the Hurricanes have been vulnerable.

They've been penalized. They've struggled on third down. They've settled for field goals in the red zone.

Thursday in Cincinnati, all of those issues reappeared and this time, Miami couldn't overcome them.

Instead, the Bearcats capitalized on all of those issues to pick up a 34-23 upset win over the Hurricanes, their first victory over Miami since 1947 when the teams met for the first time.

Cincinnati's redshirt freshman quarterback Hayden Moore, making his first college start, was 22 of 33 for 279 yards with two touchdowns – including a 7-yarder to Tyler Cogswell with 6:54 left that put the game virtually out of reach for Miami, which now limps into ACC play after its first loss of the season.
