Report: David Beckham, Donna Shalala to discuss partnering on football-soccer stadium

David Beckham's bid to bring a Major League Soccer team to Miami appears to have regained momentum.

The 40-year-old soccer icon will be in Miami on Friday to meet with University of Miami president Donna Shalala about the possibility of partnering on a football-soccer stadium, according to mulitple media outlets.

MLS commissioner Don Garber, Beckham's business partner Marcelo Claure and other representatives of Beckham United group reportedly will take part in the discussion.

UM spokeswomen Margot Winick said Thursday evening the university could not confirm the meeting and had no further comment.
