Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade appeared on The Ellen Show with Ellen DeGeneres on Monday to surprise James Shaw Jr.
Shaw gained notoriety after he disarmed a gunman during a shooting at an Antioch, Tennessee, Waffle House last month.
The 29-year-old Shaw told DeGeneres that Wade was his favorite basketball player, which led to D-Wade surprising him:
Wade told Shaw that he is the type of person he wants his children to look up to as a role model.
The 12-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer also presented Shaw with a $20,000 check.
