Report: Heat to make push to sign Carmelo Anthony in free agency

With the Miami Heat currently in the fight of their lives for a chance at a third straight NBA championship, it looks like the team is already looking toward the 2014-15 NBA season for the potential blockbuster signing to end all signings.

According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, the Heat are going to make a big push to convince New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony to bring his talents to South Beach this offseason:

With a reported rift brewing between Melo and Knicks president Phil Jackson, speculation has been running rampant that Anthony will opt out of his contract before the June 23rd cutoff date in order to explore his options.

Those options originally seemed to be limited to a few teams - with the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls rumored to be frontrunners if Melo begins to shop his services around the league.

However, the possibility of playing with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh may be enough to sway Melo into at least looking at Miami as a possible future home for the next stage of his NBA career.
