"40% chance" LeBron James leaves Miami leads today's Heat rumors

In today's Heat rumors update, one NBA writer has indicated that, while Miami is the favorite to retain the services of LeBron James, there is a significant chance he could land elsewhere if he opts out.

Here's Howard Beck of Bleacher Report's thoughts on LeBron's impending decision:

League sources say that Houston is preparing to make an all-out push to land James when free agency opens on July 1, assuming James opts out, as expected. If the Rockets miss out on James, they will turn their full attention to Carmelo Anthony. Chris Bosh is also on the radar.

There are rumblings that James will start weighing his options this weekend. One rival executive pegged his chances of leaving Miami at 40 percent.

The competition for James' affection will be fierce, but Houston's pitch may be tough to beat.

With Houston able to offer a work situation free of income tax, along with a chance to play with both Dwight Howard and James Harden, the Rockets could find themselves as legitimate players for James.

However, after making four straight NBA Finals appearances with Miami, James is undoubtedly loyal to both the Heat's fans, players, and management.

With questions of his legacy sure to dog him until he decides, don't be too surprised if he continues to quest to build a full-out dynasty on South Beach.
