After starting QB Ryan Tannehill re-injured his knee, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly on the verge of signing QB Jay Cutler.
Hearing Cutler deal is close. #Dolphins— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL) August 4, 2017
The Dolphins are down to Matt Moore, who started last year, second-year player Brandon Doughty and David Fales. Cutler would likely start for Miami, especially if the reported money involved is accurate.
Unconfirmed, but this is in the neighborhood of what I'm hearing https://t.co/BWC4dJ73uW— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL) August 4, 2017
Buddy of mine says Cutler to Phins is a done deal. $13 mil #ScoopCity— Joe Tidei (@JoeyProspects) August 4, 2017
Tidei is an associate producer at CSN Chicago. However, Ian Rapoport adds a deal is not done yet. However, he does confirm there have been discussions.
#Dolphins & QB Jay Cutler's reps have had discussions about a potential deal, sources say. Nothing has been agreed upon. He's the top choice— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 4, 2017
The $13 million price tag is right in line with low-end starter money. Cutler reportedly wanted that in order to leave his job as a Fox Sports color commentator. The Dolphins had reached out to Cutler when Tannehill went down with his injury in training camp.
Cutler played under Dolphins head coach Adam Gase for a year in Chicago. Cutler fared well that season, reducing the turnovers that had plagued him. The 34-year-old battle injuries last year and retired after he didn't find a starting job this offseason.
