PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis' Rafael Vallery has been named American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. It is the first conference weekly accolade in Vallery's career.
It also is the sixth time in this outdoor campaign's seven weeks that Memphis has received an honor from the conference. In all, 10 Tigers have earned weekly awards this season.
At last weekend's Memphis Invitational, Vallery recorded personal-bests in both the discus and shot put and also placed second in both events. It was the fourth time this season he finished among the top-three in both events at the same meet.
