Maryland defensive back Will Likely has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season, effectively ending the career of one of the most decorated players in program history.
Coach DJ Durkin announced the injury on Friday night after tests revealed the damage in the senior’s right knee suffered on a kick return during the second quarter of a 31-10 loss to Minnesota last weekend. Earlier in the week he had been listed at his usual positions on Maryland’s depth chart — as a starter at defensive back, wide receiver and kick returner — for Saturday night’s game against Michigan State.
