Struggling Maryland basketball team faces a potential pothole in Piscataway

A late-season road trip to Rutgers was not supposed to be fraught with such potential peril for the Maryland men's basketball team.

The Terps will be facing an opponent that has been more competitive than its 2-14 Big Ten record indicates, and facing pressure that is seemingly building during a rare three-game losing streak.

Maryland's first trip to play the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, N.J., two years ago was not an easy one for the Terps, despite a 60-50 victory. The game was tied with six minutes left.

That team – led by senior guard Dez Wells and freshman guard Melo Trimble – was in the midst of an eight-game winning streak.
