North Carolina kicker Jonathan Doerer commits to Maryland

Maryland has added its first special teams piece to its 2017 recruiting class, picking up a commitment from North Carolina kicking prospect Jonathan Doerer.

Doerer, who becomes the Terrapins 12th commitment in the class, announced his decision via Twitter on Friday afternoon. The 6-foot-3, 188-pound Doerer plays at South Mecklenberg High School in Charlotte and also reportedly holds offers from Clemson and Army.

While Maryland has added a number of four stars on offense and defense in 2017 – including six four-star prospects and seven players with ties to the Washington area – Doerer becomes the first special teamer and is the first commit under new special teams coordinator Pete Lembo.
