Maryland men’s basketball uses late run to top Illinois State

It may have taken a late 21-8 run, but the Maryland men’s basketball team got the victory.

The Terrapins edged Illinois State 77-66 in the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday evening. With the win, Maryland moves on to face Rhode Island in the championship game on Wednesday.

Guard Rasheed Sulaimon led the Terps with 18 points, including nine in the final 5:31. Maryland had five total players that scored in double figures, including a 13-point effort from center Damonte Dodd off the bench.

Maryland may have only connected on five of their 22 three-point attempts, but Jake Layman, Jared Nickens, and Sulaimon all drilled threes in the final 4:30 to put the game away.
