‘He’s a good kid': Maryland football freshman Jake Funk has fifth-year senior roommates

When fifth-year seniors Perry Hills and Roman Braglio first heard that true freshman Jake Funk was moving into their on-campus apartment last January, they wanted to properly welcome him. So as Funk walked into the door on move-in day, he was serenaded by a loud playing of “Give Up the Funk,” Parliament’s watershed 1975 hit.

“First thing we did,” Braglio said last week, recalling how he and Hills set the tone with their young roommate. “We always mess with him.”

Funk has been able to handle it so far. The running back graduated early from Damascus High School in Montgomery County — where he was the The Washington Post’s All-Met Player of the Year in 2015 and a late addition to Maryland’s freshman recruiting class — and decided he wanted to get a head start at college.
