When a player of Melo Trimble’s caliber arrives on a college campus, it typically generates significant enthusiasm for the basketball program. Trimble became the University of Maryland’s first McDonald’s All-American recruit since 2002, spurning the likes of Notre Dame and Virginia to play for the Terrapins. With senior Dez Wells and junior Jake Layman back in the fold, Maryland looked primed to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since Gary Williams’ retirement in 2011.
