Herd takes 13-7 lead in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Chase Litton threw a 16-yard pass to Ryan Yurachek and Nick Smith kicked two short field goals as Marshall took a 13-7 lead over Connecticut at halftime of the St. Petersburg Bowl.

Ron Johnson scored on an 8-yard run for the Huskies.

Deandre Reaves set up the Thundering Herd touchdown with a 26-yard punt return to the UConn 20, and then the Herd needed just two plays to cash in.

The first play was a 4-yard Devon Johnson run, his first carry after missing five games.

UConn matched that TD with a 13-play, 75-yard drive in which quarterback Bryant Shirreffs ran six times for 31 yards.
