Marc Guehi made the bold move of leaving Chelsea's bloated academy in search of first-team football at Crystal Palace… now, the centre back's superb form under Patrick Vieira has led to an England call-up and a World Cup spot is NOT out of reach

Headlines from the announcement of Gareth Southgate's latest England squad on Thursday might have focused on absent Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, but Marc Guehi's inclusion was right up there too.

The precocious Crystal Palace defender is the most eye-catching pick in the Three Lions squad, and the call-up is hardly undeserved either.

After leaving Chelsea's bloated academy squad last summer - and the safety net that goes with it - Guehi, 21, has thrived under Patrick Vieira at Selhurst Park, impressing consistently and even captaining the side he only joined in July.
