Ex-Manchester United man Keith Gillespie hospitalises opponent with memory loss and chipped teeth after elbow in a legends match in Australia

A charity match in Australia involving a Manchester United Legends XI was marred by a player hospitalised with memory loss after being elbowed by Keith Gillespie.

Gillespie, who played for United nine times before joining Newcastle in 1993, reacted to Dean Heffernan off the ball and viciously lashed out in the second half of the match held in memory of the late West Ham youngster Dylan Tombides on Saturday.

Heffernan was left crumpled on the ground by the impact and, according to FOX Sports, was in hospital in Perth for scans after struggling with his memory as well as having his teeth chipped and jaw damaged.
