Lyon have asked Manchester City if they can take Jason Denayer on loan.
The Belgium international was one of several City players being lined up for a move to newly-promoted La Liga side Girona but he is keen on the chance to play for Lyon.
The French side had spoken to Denayer's clubmate Eliaquim Mangala earlier in the week but his £17.6m price is not considered great value by Lyon despite the huge drop on the £42m City paid to Porto in 2014.
Denayer, 21, had a disappointing season on loan at Sunderland last year but Lyon have a long-standing interest having tried to sign him two years ago.
