I have heaps of fond Mike Channon memories, and why not? My wife was born and raised a stone’s throw from where Mike Channon began playing football – Shrewton (Wiltshire) and my parents-in-law, who knew Channon’s nearest and dearest often spoke with exceptional affection about the days when Mike and his family lived in a small village in the middle of the Salisbury Plain.
I, on the other hand, have roots firmly fixed in the North-West, and so I was never tempted to change my allegiance from Manchester City towards Southampton FC, even though I was under pressure to do so – NEVER!
