The Lions, already with two losses in West Coast Conference (WCC) play, took control in the first set, leading in almost every offensive category. In the second set, though, the Lions got off to slow start but were able to regain control before falling just short, tying the score at one set each. A strong offensive attack and a reduced amount of errors allowed the Lions to retake the lead in the third, but in the fourth set, the Bulldogs were able to regain momentum, leading the set in kills with an attacking percentage of .429.
After four grueling sets, the Lions and Bulldogs entered the fifth and final set in hopes of their fourth WCC win.
