Lakers' Byron Scott defends conditioning-heavy practices

HONOLULU >> The Lakers players stood hunched over along the baseline, eager to catch their breath for any free second they had. But they soon heard the sound from Byron Scott’s whistle that meant only one thing.

They needed to run again.

The guards and post players sprinted separately with varying distances. The drill always started and ended at the baseline. The distance traveled varied from the free-throw line, half-court, the free throw-line at the opposite side of the court and the opposite baseline.

Once it ended, the players gasped for air. Every bead of sweat and every grunted noise revealed the strain of a physically demanding three-practice.
