Lakers assistant Miles Simon to miss game with pneumonia

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Miles Simon has been diagnosed with pneumonia and will miss Saturday's preseason game against the Clippers.

Simon was taken out of the Staples Center locker room area on a stretcher after Thursday night's 128-123 win over the Sacramento Kings.

The team announced Simon will be considered day-to-day after Saturday's preseason game.

Simon -- who is on the Lakers staff along with associate head coach Brian Shaw, assistants Jesse Mermuys, Brian Keefe and Mark Madsen -- has played a key role in the development of the Lakers' young players and coached the team's summer league squad this past July to the Las Vegas Summer League championship game.
