Lakers Rumors: Lakers planning to hold on to 7th pick in draft

In today's Lakers rumors and news, the Los Angeles Lakers may not be looking to trade their seventh overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft after all.

Per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com (via Corey Hansford of Lakers Nation), the Lakers may be content in building through their current pick rather than using it to pick up multiple selections or an NBA-ready player in return:

Whether the Lakers end up picking Smart, Randle, or somebody else, the team is leaning towards keeping their No. 7 pick rather than trading down in order to acquire multiple picks, according to a source with knowledge of their thinking.

The Lakers aren't looking to engage in a long-term rebuilding process, so picking Marcus Smart or Julius Randle might be the safest bet to pick up immediate dividends out of the draft.

However, don't be surprised if the Lakers continue to survey their options with the pick - perhaps helping facilitate this rumor in hopes of driving up the value of the selection in the eyes of a team desperate to move up in one of the most loaded draft classes in history.
