Final: Alex Wood bounces back as Dodgers top Diamondbacks, 3-1

LOS ANGELES – As Alex Wood pitched deeper into his season debut last week in San Francisco, things fell apart.

Wood, who had thrown four scoreless innings to start off, gave up three runs in the fifth inning and only a little more than half of his pitches in that span went for strikes.

When he stayed in to bat in the top of the sixth, second-guessing of Manager Dave Roberts ensued. Wood stayed in, came out on the mound to start the bottom half and promptly allowed back-to-back singles. He was out after that point.

But the deeper the left-hander went Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium in a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the more effective he was.
