LOS ANGELES – Wait … for … it.
The Dodgers did their part, shaving their magic number to clinch the National League West down to 1 with a 14-1 rout of the Colorado Rockies Saturday night.
Then they turned their attention south – well, their full attention. Even Dodgers manager Dave Roberts admitted they would have “one eye on the scoreboard” all night, following the second-place San Francisco Giants’ game against the San Diego Padres.
After blowing a 6-0 lead – just the latest in a second-half series of self-inflicted wounds – the Giants took the lead in the 10th inning at San Diego and held on for a 9-6 victory, keeping the champagne on ice in the Los Angeles clubhouse for another night.
