Brandon McCarthy departs with elbow tightness in wild Dodgers victory

SAN DIEGO >> Brandon McCarthy did not allow three home runs Saturday because his elbow was feeling tight. More likely, he did so because the ball was flying out of Petco Park, an unusual phenomenon on an unusually gloomy day, and a bad omen for a pitcher who’s been susceptible to the long ball this year.

With the sun setting and a heavy mist blowing sideways through the Gaslamp, Justin Upton crushed his second home run of the game in the sixth inning. As Upton circled the bases, McCarthy signaled toward the dugout and a trainer emerged.

After a short discussion, McCarthy headed for the clubhouse.
