Laguna Beach limits marijuana plants to 6 inside private homes

LAGUNA BEACH Marijuana plants used for personal recreational use can be grown inside private, locked homes but not outside in a surrounding yard, officials decided.

The City Council on Tuesday night voted unanimously to ban marijuana dispensaries, commercial cannabis cultivation and outdoor growing in response to Prop. 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act.

But they also agreed to allow any resident 21 or over to grow six plants for personal use, as the proposition requires.

The City Council in January began looking into an ordinance that ensures the citywide ban on commercial sales and dispensaries would be in place before 2018, when state agencies begin issuing licenses for cultivation, manufacturing, distribution and transportation of marijuana.
