TORONTO – Head coach Doc Rivers was visibly shaken up Wednesday night as he began his postgame press conference, finding out after the game about the passing of Oklahoma City assistant coach Monty Williams’ wife, Ingrid, following a car accident.
Rivers said he’s known Monty and Ingrid Williams since they were married, and there are “no words” to explain the tragedy. Rivers had a difficult time starting his conference and didn’t want to talk about it initially, but decided to make a statement regarding the awful news toward the end of his conference.
“I’m heartbroken, sick to death, and once again, it puts this stuff we do in perspective,” Rivers said.
