Angels still looking to fill holes as winter meetings end

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – Billy Eppler left the winter meetings Thursday morning without a new second baseman, which is no doubt disappointing to many fans but irrelevant to the Angels.

While the winter meetings provide a media-fueled atmosphere of anticipation, to the Angels general manager the meetings simply represent Days 64 to 67 of the offseason.

“We’re making progress,” Eppler said. “Things are becoming more evident for what we might be able to do.”

In recent years, the Angels have left the ballroom for the Rule 5 draft – the final event of the winter meetings – without a major deal, but made one shortly thereafter.
