'The criticism of him is quite heavy': Andy Robertson jumps to Trent Alexander-Arnold's defence and claims his Liverpool team-mate is singled out more than other players amid slump in form

Andy Roberton is bemused with the recent criticism of his Liverpool team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold and believes that the Reds right-back is singled out more than other players when performances dip.

Liverpool exited the Champions League on Wednesday evening after Karim Benzema's single strike topped off a 6-2 aggregate victory for Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold was one of three Liverpool defenders criticised by former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand as being at fault for the Frenchman's goal while others singled out the Liverpool star on social media.

However, fellow full-back Robertson, who shares a great relationship with the 24-year-old, has bit back at slating suggestions, explaining to the Liverpool Echo: 'People are quick to talk players up, especially English players.
