Conor Benn faces another acid test in experienced southpaw Chris van Heerden on Saturday as he continues his march towards a world title... but tougher fights are surely on the horizon as 'The Destroyer' promises 'this year is THE YEAR'

From London to Liverpool to Leeds, a travelling Conor Benn produced three scintillating performances as he transformed from a welterweight prospect to a legitimate contender last year.

Samuel Vargas, Adrian Granados and finally Chris Algieri all fell victim to the ever-developing Briton, who, after some brilliant matchmaking by promoter Eddie Hearn, insisted he was now ready for the division's elite.

Improved, yes, but certainly not the finished article; perhaps even Benn will have acknowledged the likes of Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr and perhaps even David Avanesyan were still, for now, a step too far.
